After reading some forums and other posts I have noticed a constant theme. College textbooks become outdated so quickly after a couple semesters they are always coming out with new textbooks that need to be purchased. Ever since we have come into the digital age of technology the turn around on information is faster and faster and consumers demand it quicker. College students and professors will be the same once they are familiar with this technology. Technical Fields and majors that have major developments and advancements will have a tougher time with digital books to keep them updated and relevant to the academic audience. I could see publishers coming out with new updates once or twice a year based on new research and developments. This would make a type of subscription service interesting for College Textbooks as they would be able to have the most up to date information as its coming out be streamed to the iPad and taught in the classrooms. I know that I have taken some marketing classes in the past at my college and they covered some online marketing during the semester. The problem with the material is that it was dated a few years back and the internet had changed since it was published. Colleges need to prepare students with the best knowledge and tools available when its available and having the publishers update the digital books regularly with updates will be a benefit to colleges and students.
